East Asian Library  |  Columbia University, New York, New York

A renovation for the East Asian Library included textured ceilings, a new circulation desk, shelving, turnstiles and book protection security systems, and the relocation of a 150 year old, 1,100 lb. Asian statue.  All long lead items were managed and procured prior to the end of the spring semester so that construction could begin once school was out. Due to the aggressive six week schedule, Caldwell & Walsh managed shop drawings, mock-ups, and approvals in order to produce nearly $500,000 worth of high-end millwork in time for construction commencement. The library remained open during this multi-phased construction therefore our crews took special care to manage noise levels, dust, and access. All work was completed in time for the beginning of the fall semester.
