Otterness Studio  |  Brooklyn, New York

Tom Otterness is an American sculptor whose works adorn parks and museums in New York and other cities around the world. He has built an international reputation as an artist who can create work that works well in public forums. His art has been displayed in the Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum, and Whitney Museum of American Art to name a few.

Our firm had the pleasure to work with this artist when he sought new studio space. Caldwell & Walsh’s services were contracted during the earliest stages of the project. We assisted in the property acquisition and design process to select a cost efficient property with the appropriate space requirements. A factory space was selected and transformed into a studio where Mr. Otterness and his staff develop projects, both public art commissions and fine art pieces.

To get the space ready for use, the existing concrete slab was replaced and footing supports were set up to ensure the integrity of the existing steel columns was maintained. We then constructed offices, sculpture studios, metal and wood shops, and offices. The storage area accommodates sculptures for easy movement throughout the building during the fabrication process.
