St. Catherine of Siena Church | Riverside, Connecticut
This church was designed and constructed in the 1950’s as part of the post-World War II building boom. Some of the original design details had weaknesses that resulted in the failure of the slate roof. To remedy the situation, a new black Vermont slate roof and a tin-zinc coated copper flashing system was installed. The church was also experiencing water infiltration, staining, moss and mildew growth on the exterior walls to due to a lack of flashing. The brick masonry was cleaned with a low-pressure “green” wash to remove staining. New tin-zinc copper flashings were installed at critical locations around the building’s perimeter. Another part of the project focused on the transformation of a dreary basement to a multi-purpose Social Hall for parties and receptions. Seven-foot tall wainscoting, pendant lighting, and pattered acoustic ceilings adorn this space.
